Military Members

Major Scott Dailey

Scott founded Signal Corps of the James along with current members Ed Sterling and Paul Gordon in January, 2003.

Scott previously served in a Confederate artillery battery and has participated in events at Arlington National Cemetery, Robert E. Lee's boyhood home, and Jeff Davis' birthday celebration at Hollywood Cemetery.  Scott has been designated as Chief Signal Officer of the Army of Northern Virginia, the largest Confederate reenactment organization in the nation.

First Sergeant John Schultz

John Schultz started reenacting in the spring of 2003 in an infantry unit.  He then decided to switch to Signal Corps.  He performed this task in various Living History groups then learned the trade by participating with other Signal Units.

John is one of our guys that will wear either blue or gray and has done so on several occasions.

His family (Jessica and John-John) reenacts with him and they are from the Virginia Beach area of the state.

They enjoy the camaraderie that the hobby gives as well as the fun that is had by all!

Sergeant Ed Sterling

Ed Sterling is an experienced reenactor and is a founding member of this unit.  He started off, like our Major, in the Artillery but decided that Signal Corps was the way to go.

Ed is from the Richmond Virginia area.

Corporal Brad Cohick

Brad Cohick is new to reenacting.  He's been with the unit for only two seasons now.  In that time he has learned our methods and demonstrated a keen leadership ability.

He reenacts with his wife Stephanie, daughter Cassady and Cassady's best friend, Mora.

The Cohicks are from the Manassas, Virginia area.

Private Joe Whittle

Joe is our most experienced reenactor, with over 15 years of experience in virtually every major event in the Mid-Atlantic area.  Joe's wife, Susan, is our Civilian Coordinator.  Joe has had the privilege to work on several movie sets as an 'extra'.   Keep a close eye out next time you watch Gettysburg!  After serving as a Captain in another unit for a number of years he's enjoying the freedom and fun of being a Private again!

Joe is from the Hockessin, Delaware area.

Private Bill Chapman

Bill Chapman, his wife Gay and son William joined our unit in 2007.

Bill's family is in the process of restoring an historical homestead Enon Hall in Virginia.

Private Joe (Jose) Fernandez

Jose joined our unit in 2007 and is from the Bowie Maryland area and works in the DC area.

Private William Chapman

William is Bill's Son (obviously)!   He's one of our unit's drummers and loves reenacting a lot.

Private John Schultz II
(aka John-John)

John-John is 13 years old now and has been reenacting as long as his father.  From the very first event he yearned to get on the field.  He picked up a drum 3 years ago and has become one of the best drummers of his age on the field today.

He is known for his willingness to go the extra mile on the field.  For instance, once, singlehandedly, he marched the army, as their only musician, on a 2 mile hike to the battlefield, through a three hour running battle and then back to camp.

John and his family are from the Virginia Beach Virginia area.
