We are a "Mainstream
Family-Oriented" Civil War Reenacting unit portraying a
Confederate Signal Corps and Secret Service unit. That means that, although we
try our best to recreate the life of an 1860's Confederate unit, we
allow our families to camp with us and allow modernisms such as coolers
so long as they are kept out of sight during
specified hours. By clicking the picture to the right you will see
our us in March, 2006. We have had several
members join since then and will be periodically updating unit
pictures.
Our unit belongs to a larger reenacting
organization known as The Army of Northern Virginia. Our Commanding Officer
also serves as the ANV's Chief Signal Officer. . It is our job to provide period
communications for the Army when on the field and in camp. We
do this by using the newest 1860's technology such as signal flags,
torches and telegraph. In addition, we raid Yankee positions
on occasion, act as scouts and intelligence agents, and generally do
all that we can do to defend our country, our state, our families
and our homes.
During our short history, Signal Corps of the
James has become an acknowledged leader in Civil War signals
operation and communication. We have provided training and
equipment for such institutions as The Manassas Museum and
Pamplin Park. We have done living history for not only those
institutions, but also for the Mariner's Museum, Chesapeake Civil
War Days, Dixie Days, and Field Days of the Past. Click the thumbnail pictures below to view some of our
"signal specific" gear. The flags we use represent reproduction CS and US flags
and staffs. The bottom line is that we provide accurate,
reliable, and quick communications and intelligence for our Commanding General and
his staff both on and off the field.

New Members are invited to join us for several
events to see if we are a good fit with them. Based on our
mutual experience, an invitation may be issued to the prospective
member to join our unit. Although we are portraying accurate
signals and secret service impressions, of primary importance is the
compatibility of our members. We are really a
"family", and we wish to keep it that way.
The organizer and founder of the unit is our
Commanding Officer, Major Scott Dailey.
